Doily

A feminist subversion of the ubiquitous municipal manhole cover, Doily celebrates the knowledge, creativity, ingenuity and skill of women past and present whose contributions shape Collingwood’s history and culture.

Cast in the ancient and enduring material of bronze, the domestic doily is instilled with a sense of monumentality, permanence and strength.

Incorporating the acronym of the Collingwood Country Women’s Association, there’s a surreal suggestion of an underground matriarchal infrastructure that can be accessed through this shield-like portal.
