Kooyang

Kooyang references the native short finned eel that was an important food source for the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung People and reminds us of the original natural landscape of Collingwood prior to European invasion.

Because of its ability to cross oceans and travel great distances overland in search of new waterways, Kooyang is also used here as an avatar for resilience and optimism.

I take this opportunity to acknowledge that I live, work and made this artwork on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people. I am thankful for what I have learned in the process and pay my respects to their Elders past present and future and to all First Nations People.
